Tattooed men with dark pasts are now underground artisan coffee roasters thanks to a Presbyterian "Self Development of People" grant. Tierra Nueva in Burlington has become a unique, grassroots Christian ministry/business model. Its farming members grow sustainable coffee in Central America, and its new tattooed members from the jail ministry roast in an underground community development. This grant is equipping ex-offenders to learn an artisan trade that supports their cutting-edge ministry on the streets.
Churches in the region can buy this gourmet roasted coffee wholesale, while at the same time boasting three unified values: ecological, social, and spiritual.
